Compression Stocking Guide
All the information you need to know about compression stockings can be found here.
Compression stockings are used to support the venous system and the lymphatic system of the legs. The compression factor is not uniform over the entire length of the stocking. A maximum amount of compression is used at the ankle and then the compression decreases as the further up the leg you go. This compression force along with the muscles action of the calf works to help circulate the blood and lymph fluid up the legs and back to the core of the body.
Original compression stockings were very noticeable but recently many designs, styles, and colors are used which make it virtually impossible to distinguish these from standard stockings.
Compression stockings are manufactured by wrapping elastic fibers or rubber around the stockings. These fibers work to constrict the legs and force the fluids back up the leg to the core.
Compression stockings come in different levels of compression effect. The compression force is measured in mmHg or millimeters of mercury.
