Eating the proper diabetic food can make a big difference in how your body reacts to the disease.  The main key to dealing with your diabetes is to eat a well balanced meal that does not contain too many carbohydrates while at the same time contains protein and fats but in portions that will allow you to keep your weight within limits.

Diabetes is a disease that affects how your body uses carbohydrates, also known as sugars and starches, to fuel your natural energy needs.  When you eat carbohydrates your digestive system converts them into blood glucose also known as blood sugar.  It is very important that you keep your blood glucose levels within a set level because being at a level too high or too low can have dramatic negative effects on your health.

The best way to control blood sugar is to eat meals that are low in carbohydrates so you don't dump a bunch of extra sugar into your blood stream.  If you are going to deal with your diabetes effectively you must start finding the resources to give you the information you need.  You can not rely only on your doctor for information because the current medical system is requiring patients to be more active in their own treatment.

You need to follow ALL directions by your physicians but it is up to you to learn how to follow those.  For example, your doctor will say to eat foods low in carbohydrates and it is then your responsibility to find out what those foods are.  Either of the following two books will help you in that learning.  Get at least one of them today and start finding out what you can do to have a long healthy life.

Balancing the blood glucose levels in your body is absolutely critical to living a normal life with diabetes.  I have known many diabetics who didn't believe this and ended up with years of pain and suffering along with eventual amputation and death.  Don't be one of the stupid ones.  With the proper diet and exercise program along with medications as needed you can still lead a relatively normal healthy life.

Of course in a perfect world you would be able to limit the amount of different food groups you eat exactly and control every bit of physical activity.  The reality is all of these things vary on a daily basis.  That is why you need to keep track of the foods you eat and the physical activity you have each day so you can keep them balanced.  This, along with any medicine you take, works together to keep your blood glucose levels on a even level.

There are three main types of carbohydrates that are found in foods and knowing their differences and effects on your body are important.

Dietary Fiber can be considered the good carbohydrates although the other two are also important for good health just in the proper levels.  Eating a lot of fiber with your meals will slow down the absorption of the other types of carbs and also any fats you eat.

Sugars are just what they name implies.  They are all the types of sugars that are found in foods.  It is not only white sugar you need to be concerned with.  Fructose which is found in fruit can also have an effect on your glucose levels as well as other sweeteners such as honey and corn syrup.

Starches are what most people consider high carbohydrate foods.  These include such things as grains, corn, and beans(legumes).  Eating a limited amount of these foods will allow you to control your blood sugar levels at each meal.

Learning more about proper food selection and portions is absolutely critical to having a healthy life with diabetes.  You need to commit to spending a little time every day finding out more information about how to deal with your disease.  There is a lot of good information you can find on the internet so spend a little time checking out other sites and learning everything you can.  The best medicine for diabetes control is knowledge about what to and not to do and then following those recomendations.

Choose today the path of knowledge and start learning everything you can about diabetes and how to control the possible terrible effects of the disease.  You have the power to take control of this disease and fight it into submission.  Don't let it take control of you.  You are more powerful than you ever dreamed and you can still live a healthy and happy life if you choose to.

Can you suggest things that can be eaten so as to bring the blood sugar down?

For a general rule, try to eat as many raw foods as possible that are low in sugar or contain no sugar at all.
