Drug Rehab Tips

The first step to detox is to decide you are going to quit. You have made that decision, at least I hope you have. The next step is to prepare for the actual affects on your body of the detoxing. It is very imortant that you make some plans to help you to overcome the physical and emotional effects of weening yourself off the drug in question.

Withdrawl is only temporary. You will get through this and you will feel much better when it is done. You may need to tell yourself every hour that the discomfort is worth it. You may need to tell yourself that every minute or every second. Keep telling your self that you are getting better even thought it doesn't feel like it at the time.

If you are coming off of pain killers or opiates you body will be sore and tired. Many people have found that coffee helps to ease the withdrawl as does Tylenol PM for the muscle soreness and to help with sleeping.

You will most likely sweat a lot. Be ready for this by planning some physical activity. Getting up and moving around will do wonders for how you feel. Intense activities like sports movements will help you to sweat the toxins out of your body. Laying in a warm pool or hot tub will also help you to feel physically better.

The third day is the worse. When you make it through this day you are well on your way to breaking the addiction. You will need to sleep a lot at this time as your body starts to heal itself. Also, your body has depleted itself of many nutrients during the active addiction phase. Be sure to take vitamins and mineral supplements to help your body start to rebuild itself.

By the fourth day the sympotms should start to diminish. And usually by day 6 or 7 they are mostly gone. Now is the time for the next phase of recovery. You must have help to keep you from going back to the life of maddness. A treatment program works very well for support and you must contact Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and start going to meetings. These people will not judge you. They have been there and lived through it. Their knowledge and insight will do wonders for you chances of staying clean and sober and living your life free of drugs.
